Objectives

  1. Home
  2. Objectives
  • Excellence

Dunalastair strives to achieve the highest academic and personal standards, which is why we constantly assess what we do, using our own indicators, and external benchmarks. It is important that each one of our students be required to give their utmost. Their potential cannot be wasted, and Dunalastair will seek to educate them as critical thinkers, so that they may contribute to the development of their society.

  • Bilingualism

One of Dunalastair’s main goals since its foundation, has been the teaching of English as a second language and every student that graduates should speak English with fluency as well as having a very good command of their mother tongue. The learning of a second language is complemented with a certain familiarity of the cultures of English speaking countries.

  • Technology

The development of Information and Communication Technologies, and the opportunities that this has created for communication and knowledge, has had a strong impact on the world. Dunalastair must take the maximum advantage of the potential they offer the educational process, as our students are active players in this new reality.

  • Art Development

An esthetic sensibility is of great importance in itself, and is well worth encouraging in a world where almost everything is judged by its instrumental value. Artistic expression is a human dimension that is undervalued in Chilean education, and Dunalastair aims at a well-rounded education of our students.

Fair Play

The idea of fair play, or fairness, is a key value in the formative efforts of British education, where life can be understood by means of the metaphor of games, implying multiple relations amongst people, and groups of people trying to obtain a common goal. In these efforts a shared set of rules, and a particular spirit, governs our behaviour towards each other.  Abiding by these rules is the basis of mutual respect, of honesty, and of the consideration of others.

Resilience

Virtutis Glory Merces (glory is the reward for valour) is the School’s motto. In a demanding and complex world, Dunalastair seeks to educate capable students, with an ability to overcome difficulties, who can learn from problems and setbacks and, on the other hand, enjoy their successes.

The values of effort and discipline

It is essential that our students,  develop their inner strength from very early on, so that they have a working discipline enabling them to fight inertia. It is important to develop in each student habits of perseverance and order so that they can experience a permanent and deeper level of welfare, which comes with the development of the necessary emotional, cognitive and behavioral abilities, to respond to the challenges we face in life.

Enterprising spirit

Creativity, innovation and the capacity to carry out projects by means of actions that make them real, is something that should characterize Dunalastair students.

Diversity

Given its non-denominational character, Dunalastair has always welcomed a diversity of beliefs in its community, with the conviction that coexistence in diversity is a value in itself. It also emphasizes education for a multicultural world that is essential for contemporary life and for democracy.

Furthermore, we have opted for a co-educational school since the modern world requires that men and women accept their differences, understanding that both perspectives allow them to face life’s challenges more successfully.

Sports and Health Education

Dunalastair has always sought to balance the intellectual, moral and physical development of its students. Physical Education and Sports are therefore an important part of our curriculum. We hope that our students will learn to value their health, care for it, and enjoy physical activity and sports.

Responsibility towards the community

In addition to responsibly accepting the consequences of their actions, our education seeks to enable our students to reflect and act with regard to the needs of their immediate community and the wider society. The school should therefore encourage reflection and dialogue, and an awareness that the challenges that a community faces can have multiple solutions.

As a result, developing team projects where students can value their positive contribution to group achievements (as opposed to individual success) is of great importance.

The above-mentioned values are crucial to the identity of Dunalastair, and therefore should be personified at every moment by the members of our community, teachers, students and parents.
